I have been a pre-school swimming teacher for over 8 years. Before that I was a senior manager in the London Fire Brigade for 16 years and loved every minute of it and very proud to have been a part of it. I have run my own business hiring out my two fire engines for children’s parties, hen nights etc. I was also in the Royal Navy Reserves for 6 fantastic world exploring years. I have two lovely teenage girls Amelia and Calista and a noisy dog called Satchmo, oh and a husband – Dave!

I love my job because it is rewarding to know you are helping children to be safe in the water and this fantastic life skill can start from when they are tiny babies. I enjoy help babies and toddlers have a love and enjoyment of the water.

Hello my name is Jackie Reeves and I live in Horsham with my husband Stuart . I trained as a swimming teacher when my youngest son was a baby having given up my job as an Air Hostess to become a full time mum and have now been teaching for 18 years.

My passion for swimming started from a very young age when I trained every morning before school for Crawley Swimming Club. I went on to compete in galas and competitions for both the club and the county and was Sussex Breaststroke Champion at the age of 10.

We pride ourselves at Horsham Swim School with having the best teachers in the South East of England. Our pre school programme follows a pathway associated with Swim England and our after school lesson follow the Swim England National Teaching Plan. It gives me great pleasure and job satisfaction to teach children this very important life skill  and to see the progression they make under our expert tuition. Our lessons are safe, fun and enjoyable whilst providing the basic fundamentals of each stroke.

I was swimming Course coordinator at K2 leisure Centre in Crawley when it first opened and now myself and the owner Tony Hogben carry out all of the administration and booking s for Horsham Swim School.

“As well as my teaching qualifications I have been fully trained in water treatment and I help to keep the pool at Morriswood crystal clear; I have successfully completed my Pool Plant Room Operators course. It covers everything you need to effectively maintain a Swimming Pool, Spa or Water feature. I learnt about circulation, filtration, disinfection, pH correction and heating of pool water. I also learnt how to maintain water which is safe and pleasant to swim in, how to correctly test pool water and understand how to restore it to ideal conditions. “

When I am not in the pool I enjoy gardening, skiing, keeping fit and walking my dog Archie.

Having swam a lot as a child and enjoyed seeing my son Callum learn to swim, I became a Swim School Administrator for a private swim school covering several sites where I went on to qualify as a Level 2 Swimming Instructor and have never looked back in 9 years of teaching babies through to adults.I love being a part of a persons journey becoming safe and enjoying the water and feel so strongly that everyone should be given a safe and fun environment to learn such an important life skill.

Having now had our lovely daughter Rosie, I feel so lucky to have a job that I absolutely love and get to spend so much time with my family as well

Zanny ( Susannah Forman)

Hi my name is Susannah and I have been a swimming teacher since 2008. I love what I do, it is an amazing gift to help others enjoy the water and learn to swim.

Prior to teaching I worked in promotions for Heart FM and also for a large energy company.

Swimming has always been a huge part of my life, I have always loved it and was in the water several times a week from a very early age.

I started swimming lessons at my local pool then progressed to swimming club.

I went on to swim competitively training at Crystal Palace and was also privileged to attend Kelly College in Devon where I was part of the swim squad training with GB swimmers. During my time competing I reached National level.

I still train 5-6 times a week though my training is no longer restricted to the pool and I have recently started another competitive journey with the UKBFF.

Aswell as working and training; I have three girls aged 20, 17 and 5 along with 2 dogs and a partner so have a busy family life.

Any spare time i get at the weekends I enjoy walking, visiting National Trust places and spending time in my home/garden.

Hi, I’m Sarah and I am delighted to be a member  the wonderful team at Horsham Swim school. I have been a swimming Instructor for 19 years and I love teaching now as much as I did when I first qualified. I love imparting a life skill and believe all children should have the opportunity to learn to swim. My ability to build up trusting relationships with my swimmers and parents has been one of my key strengths.

I’ve also spent 9 years working as a Rehabilitation Technician in the NHS assisting in the delivery of patients treatment programmes and leading mobility classes. I found my time in NHS very rewarding and got to meet some great people.

I live with two active boys, a mad Boxer dog called Max and Hubby (this is also the pecking order!) We are always outdoors exploring in any weather. One of my highlights was playing football for Leeds United Ladies in my twenties. Oh, where did those years go!

  • ASA /UKCC Level 2 Teaching Aquatics
  • ASA Level 2 Extended Diploma in Coaching Learn to Swim (Pre Fundamentals) (QCF)
  • NRASTC
  • Enhanced DBS

I’ve enjoyed being a swimming teacher since 2008 and have specialised in baby and preschool swimming for the past 12 years. I didn’t learn to swim myself until I was 9 years old and it really had an impact on me as a young child so I’m always keen to get children water confident from a young age.

I also run operations for a pregnancy and postnatal fitness franchise, which I love too! I feel very lucky to have two jobs which I’m very passionate about and neither of them feel like work!
